Delco Church Helps Community Members Find Work

A Presbyterian church in Media, Delaware County is harnessing the power of prayer to help the unemployed.

Program Director Sue Kaiden (photo) says ‘Getworks’ provides emotional and spiritual support during unemployment. But she admits finding employment is a full-time job:

"We find prayer can be very helpful. Having others pray for you or pray for strength in a difficult situation can be comfortable so we subscribe to the notion that you pray while you move your feet offer the practical help they need as well."

For five years ‘Getworks’ has provided networking opportunities, resume reviews, forums and referrals for those pounding the pavement in Delaware County:

"I think people get discouraged but actually [there are] quite a few health industry jobs, education; there's quite a few green jobs that are coming available. There are even jobs in IT so it's a matter having to work a little bit harder."
