Take Action Now on the Rendell Health Plan

Heath Care Reform is moving in Harrisburg. Click here to show your support for providing health insurance for all Pennsylvanians.

It now looks as if the two central elements of Governor Rendell's Prescription for PA (RxPA) have a chance to pass the House of Representatives early in the new year.

A few weeks ago, a small business health insurance reform bill that gives the insurance commissioner the power to set health insurance premiums, that prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions, that bans price discrimination on the basis of sex, and that limits administrative costs to 15% of premiums was adopted by the Insurance Committee of the House. And tomorrow, the same committee will hold a meeting that, we expect, will move toward the adoption of Cover All Pennsylvanians (CAP) which will provide health insurance for the 700,000 uninsured people in our Commonwealth.

The House Democratic leadership is working very hard this week to try to formulate a bill that can win broad support. If we want our representatives to do the heavy lifting of legislative work-and make the necessary adjustments without compromising the core of RxPA-they have to hear from us RIGHT NOW!

So please, click here to go to the SEIU PA website where you can you send an email to your legislator and the Democratic leadership that asks them to pass legislation that:

  1. Covers all Pennsylvanians
  2. Ensures a quality, affordable health insurance product
  3. Controls health care costs and premiums
  4. Ensures that everyone contributes to the cost of health care

The Most Important Political Mouse Click You Make This Year

It is not just about health care for Pennsylvanians. Health care is the domestic issue that should dominate the presidential and congressional election debates next year if we want to elect a Democratic President and expand our majorities in Congress. What we do in Pennsylvania in the next two weeks will help determine if that occurs.

This may be the most important political mouse click you make this year.

PS You can find out details about RxPA at Mark Steir's blog. I'll be posting again soon with a discussion of the new funding proposal for Cover All Pennsylvanians that has been under discussion in Harrisburg for the past week or so and that the Governor announced today
